Hydrogen-powered boat Dhamma Blue wins Innovation Award for Sustainable Mobility at Green Gas Mobility Summit 2025
MADRID, June 27, 2025 – Dhamma Blue, the first Spanish hydrogen-powered recreational boat, was awarded on Wednesday the Innovation Award in Sustainable Mobility with Renewable Gases, during the Green Gas Mobility Summit 2025 held this week in Madrid.
This recognition highlights the pioneering nature of the vessel, which has become a European benchmark for sustainable sailing.
“This award is especially meaningful to us because it comes at a time when the debate about decarbonizing maritime transport is gaining real visibility,” said Philippe Esposito, co-founder of Dhamma Blue and chairman of DH2 Energy.
“Dhamma Blue is proof that another way of sailing is possible: without noise, without emissions, and without sacrificing great autonomy,” added Robin Imaz, co-founder of Dhamma Blue and designer of the vessel.
The award was granted within the framework of the Green Gas Mobility Summit, the leading forum on the use of renewable gases in transport, organized by Gasnam, the technology platform that promotes sustainable transport by land, sea, and air in Spain and Portugal, with 160 partners across the entire biomethane and renewable hydrogen value chain.
The Gasnam Innovation Awards, which celebrated their 4th edition, aim to recognize, encourage, and raise visibility of the most outstanding initiatives driving sustainability and decarbonization in the energy and transport sectors.
For Eugenia Sillero, secretary general of Gasnam-Neutral Transport, “projects like Dhamma Blue demonstrate that innovation in sustainable mobility is not only happening on land but also at sea, and that renewable gases play a key role in this paradigm shift.”
Dhamma Blue is the first Spanish boat powered by green hydrogen. Measuring 7.90 meters in length, it combines a 135-kW electric motor, 63 kWh lithium batteries, and a hydrogen fuel cell that enables it to reach up to 65 nautical miles of range at 12 knots.
Its hybrid system provides silent, emission-free, and high-performance navigation, ideal for protecting sensitive ecosystems such as lagoons, canals, and marine protected areas.
Following its recent successful participation at the Salone Nautico di Venezia 2025, the boat continues its international journey and will be present at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco from July 2 to 5, as well as at an exclusive event on “Hydrogen Ecosystems” to be held on July 10 at Lake Orta (Italy), establishing itself as one of the most advanced clean boating proposals in Europe.
